On Monday the year 4-8 students at Rawhiti school had a athletics day. We all went in different age groups like all the year 8 girls where with the year 4 boys, each group went to different things at different times. The year 8 girls and year 4 boys went to high jump first, I am a year 8 girl so we started the high jump at 1m high but the year 4 boys started a lot lower (I don't know what exact high it was) the height the boys started at is the high I had been practicing with so sadly I did not do very well with high jump. But next we had long jump which I am OK at so I was not to worried, the first jump I did was 2m 90cm and my next jump was 2m 70cm so not to bad. We were only allowed two jumps but if you got in the top three you got to jump again, but I did not get in the top three :( . Any way next we had sprints which I am good at because of surf club, but I got put in a really fast group so once I was behind I could not catch up. We had a lunch break then next was middle distant running which is three laps around the bike track, I sat out for this one because of my ankle. Then we had another break then last we had shot put and discus, I was not very worried about discus because I had been to zones for it before but this time I did not really want to go to zones. I cant remember my scores for shot put and discus but I know I did not to to bad. Over all I had a great day and am proud of myself.

This is my name brought to life. The E was the most hardest because it was hard to get the sizing right.

                                                                                    This is my tiny house. The house had to be 10 by 10 blocks around and the perimeter of my house is 33. The design is a simple but modern design and has a kitchen, bedroom, desk and tv. If I could change anything it would be to make it bigger.  

  

Writing With Visual Prompts

I lean out the door with my dog, I walk until I can’t see my house anymore. Today I am going to go to my secret spot. I creep into a foggy forest and let my dog off the lead but still keep a good eye on her. I feel the coarse tree with my finger tips and take in my surroundings, there is no one to be seen but I like it that way I like the silence. Then all of a sudden my dog is no where to be seen “Daisy!” I yell but she does not respond I call again “Daisy COME HERE!!” but still no response I start to panic. I look every where but then I see her running towards me “ hello you found me!” I tell her. I finally get home I see my Mum and Dad sitting on the couch with distressed looks on there face. They tell me how I have been missing for 3 hours and about how they thought I had been kidnapped. I tell them where I was. They tell me never to go in that forest again but I don't listen. The next day I go in the same forest but I tie a bright pink string to all the trees I see. I found my way out of the deep forest. Mum and Dad still don't know about my adventurers into the deep dark forest.

My goals for my writing are 

1. Using more descriptive words.

2. Use better grammar.

1. It sounds really good because you use words other than just walk like you said I creep into a foggy forest

2. The grammar is really good and it all makes sense.

3. The next steps would be to read through It and make the last few lines more descriptive

Maths (Tuesday)

 

This is my Maths from yesterday (yes I know that it was yesterday but I was at drums during maths today) we had to work out how much it will cost wood to make a garden box. I explained above how I worked it out. From this I learned how to work out how much things will cost altogether and I think this is a good life skill for when I need to build something.   

Giant Panda Diagram

This is my diagram about giant pandas. The age I was aiming this towards was 5 to 7 year olds. I did it so this age range will be able to understand it. The ways I did it was I added arrows pointing to the thing it related to and also put colourful pictures. I also made the sentences short and the words were simple and not complicated.

This is my maths work from Tuesday. I have gotten a lot better at this since the first time I did this and I think ( and hope) that I will get even better .

Outdoor activity 40%

This has been filled up by our camp this year but my outdoor activity will be up a lot more after we go to adrenaline forest and also our ski trip. 

Passion project 30%

This mostly planning for my passion project which is going to be doing special effects makeup on a couple of people. I choose to do special effects makeup because I have always loved special effects and how they can make you look totally different than a hour ago. I have never really done this with liquid latex but I have done some little things like different types of bruises and small cuts. I think it will be really fun and help me get better as I want to be a special effects makeup artist on movie set.

Community service 0%

For my community I have done quite a bit of planning but it is not taking in the information. But for it me and Skye are going to be doing a guess how many jellybeans are in the jellybean jar. All the proceeds will go to riding for the disabled.

This is three of my poems for literacy that I am presenting to me literacy group next Wednesday.

Dracula 22/6/20

I am finished the book now it was a great ending and they answered most of the questions that the book made you think about. Near the ending Mina was bitten by Dracula but just after she got bitten they but a wafer from the holy communion which wards of the evil and gives holy spirit to someone who is evil like Mina who is now a vampire. They also talk about how they might kill Mina as she is a vampire but she ends up living and really helps the men kill Dracula with her intelligence. They end up killing Dracula and 7 years later Mina and Jonathan have a baby and live happily ever after. Overall I highly recommend this book to anyone who like a horror story I give it a 10/10.           

William Pike

Me and my friend Skye have changed the idea for our William Pike passion project. Instead of doing the Willy Wonka challenge as it is to expensive to run instead of that we are going to do a guess how many jelly beans are in the jar. It will be one dollar to take a guess and if you guess right you win a big box of lollies. The jelly beans are going to be sitting in the office for about a week and all the proceeds will go to riding for the disabled. 🐴🐴

Medium:

Difficult:
Rylin uses 4 pieces of wood to make a rectangle shaped border for a garden. 2 pieces are 20m long each. The other 2 pieces are 40m long each. How many metres of wood does he use AND what is the area of the box?

Dracula

Something that has stood out to me so far in the story is...
Renfleld who is a patient at the asylum has been acting wired like sneaking up behind someone and cutting them in the arm so they bleed and then licking the blood saying ¨THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE, THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE!". He also has been trying to talk to Dracula, so I am wondering if he is or wants to be a vampire?

1. Do a fun raiser for riding for the disabled with my friend Skye by doing a Willy Wonka challenge (a Willy Wonka challenge is put 1 golden ticket in one of 30 chocolate bars and if you get the ticket you when a big basket full of gifts).

2. For my passion project I am going to learn more about special effects makeup and also practice on my friends .

“HURRY UP GO TO SCHOOL !!” my mum screams at me “ok I am going” I mumble under my breath. I start to walk trying to hold back my tears, my school is half an hour away from my house but i'd rather walk than go with my mum or my dad. They are abusive and don’t love me and if I tell anyone that they hurt me my parents said they would “send me to an orphanage and make sure none of my family know I am there” so I have never told anyone but even if I did I can't go anywhere else. All my other family members are either dead or they live on the other side of the world in Australia and I live in Unalaska, Alaska. With a population of around 4,524. I did live in Australia but my mum and dad said “it would be better for us to move so we can have a better life” or something like that, I miss my old house so much it was a little cottage right opposite the beach. I went surfing every day that I could and every summer me and my two best friends Mia and Skye went surfing at 5:00 in the morning, went back to Mia's house, had lunch then went back to the beach and stayed there till 12:00 at night. I miss my friends. I was happy there because my parents didn't hurt me; they started abusing me after they had decided to move . Here I have one friend Lilly but I can only see her during school hours because her parents are very strict. They don't let anyone who is not a family member in their house for some reason. “BREE!” my friend yells from across the street “hey lilly'' I say wiping away my tears making sure she does not see “how are you?” She asks if I'm not ok. I want to scream but I can't so I lie “great, you?” “I’m good, what is that on your arm?” Shoot I forgot to put makeup on it “umm...I fell over when I got home and it bruised my arm” “oh ok” she replied. When we get to school I go straight to my locker and grab the books I need for my first class which is art my favorite subject. The bell rings and I sprint down to class 12 art class. I sit down at my desk and wait for the teacher to come in. The blonde, young, sweet teacher walks in with her expensive handbag in one hand and her cup of coffee in her other. She says in a cheerful voice “Good Morning class!” and we all say bluntly “good morning Miss Miller” “OK open your art books, today we are going to be drawing self portraits¨.

Surfing


When I went surfing last week it was super fun the waves where perfect and big. I love the feeling of the wind through my hair when I catch a wave. I'm so happy when I surf, I cant wait for the next time I go.

Spelling

In Nogos literacy group we have been focusing on our spelling.
We have been doing spelling tasks like writing a letter to someone and trying to spell word the we just learnt without looking to see if we remember them. It has been fun trying new writing skills, My favourite bit of this week has been writing a letter to Liz about a mufti week.

My first week of being a year 8

The last 2 weeks of being a year 8 has been wired because I am so used to being a year 7 and not having to worry about m y CV and what leadership roles I am taking up. It is not that much different work wise we do most of the same stuff the year 7's do but we have not done that much work yet. I have made a couple new friends like Violet and my old friends from when I was a year 6 are now in my class so I have a even better relationship with them. So far I have loved being a year 8 and I am excited for what is to come.
