ADVENTURE WEEK
Last week we had a adventure week on Monday I went surfing with Mr Redmond and then went ice skating which was so fun. Then on Tuesday I went all over Christchurch and did a photography task where we had to take as many photos as we could of the things the sheet told us to do we also got ice cream. On Wednesday I did werewolves (which is a super fun game) and also skateboarded on the court. Then on Thursday we went to jelly park and had so much fun and on Friday it was fun day which is where you can do what ever you want.

TEN FACTS ABOUT WW1 !!

Ten facts about WW1    

                        

1) World War 1 began on july 28 1914. The conflict lasted 4 years, 3 months and 14 days. Ending on November 11 1918


2) The two sides of the war where he Triple Ententes (also known as The Allies) were Britain, France, Ireland and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany and Austria-Hungary.


3) Italy originally sided with the Central Powers. They were part of a Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary but they did not enter the way because their alliance was supposed to be defensive, but Germany and Austria-Hungary had taken the offensive and declared war.


4) World War 1 has many different names It was called The Great War, the World War, the War to End All Wars, World War 1, WW1, the War of the Nations and more.


5) Over 8 million soldiers died in World War 1, and another 21 million injured. A staggering 65 million soldiers were mobilized during the war.


6) Chemical weapons were first used in WW1. Using poison gas was considered a war crime, but tear gas wasn’t considered to be a conflict by the troops. The Germans were the first to use lethal gases when they used chlorine gas attack. Later they also developed and used the most effective gas of the First World War — mustard gas. The British were shocked at the German use of poison gas, but developed their own gas warfare to retaliate.




7) The U.S. were only in combat for 7 months. During this time, around 116,000 soldiers were killed and 204,000 were injured.


8) A battlefield explosion in France was heard in England. The majority of WW1 was fought in muddy trenches but one group of miners dug underground tunnels to detonate mines behind enemy trenches. One mine, in Messines Ridge in Belgium, detonated 900,000lbs of explosives and completely destroyed the German front line. This explosion was so loud and so powerful that the British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, heard it all the way back in Downing Street, London 140 miles away.



9) 9 out of ten soldiers survived
In World War I most British soldiers moved around the trench system constantly and were not very often in the firing line. Their lives in WW1 would have been quite boring, with lots of routine jobs and duties.



10) Plastic surgery was invented because of the First World War
Surgeon Harold Gillies helped shrapnel victims who had terrible facial injuries with one of the earliest examples of plastic surgery. The twisted metal caused many facial injuries that were far worse than a straight-line wound of a bullet. The techniques used by Dr Gillies pioneered the techniques for facial reconstructive surgery.

How a normal every day 13 year old girl became famous.

Chapter 1: STAY CALM

It was a normal Saturday, I was sitting on my couch not doing anything and I hear my phone ring (which is very unusual because know one rings my phone except my mom). I pick it up and say “hello, Lily speaking” then i hear “hello my name is Becky I am the person who watched you do an audition two weeks ago” then I thought I did not get the part (it was for a small movie in new York where i live). “Oh, yeah I forgot” I said “well…” she said “YOU GOT THE PART!” “OMG!” I said “I can't believe it, when do I start?” “you start Monday” she said “um...i’m sorry but I have school” “well you can't have the part then” “I guess I can come” I said I don't know how my mom will feel about this. “Good” she said “see you on Monday” as soon as she hang up I rang my mom “hey” ‘hi” she said suspiciously “are you OK?” “yes never better” I said “I GOT THE PART” “for what?” “for the new York movie” “oh GOOD JOB” she said. “Um....I start on Monday,” I said , hoping that she would not say no “that is OK I guess, if you really want to?”

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST HOKEY POKEY!!

Hokey Pokey



Team name- Slytherclaws 🐍🐦

People in team- Sophie Bangma & Bluebell Barr

We making- HOKEY POKEY


Ingredients
100 grams of caster sugar

4 tablespoons of golden syrup

1 and a half teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)

Recipe


Put the sugar and syrup into a saucepan and stir ( do not stir when it is on the heat)

Put the pan on the heat and let it melt, it should turn to goo. Then a bubbling mass the colour of maple syrup. This will take around 3 minutes

Take it off the heat and whisk it in with the bicarbonate soda. And watch it turn into a cloud of pale gold. Put it immediately onto some baking paper.

Leave it to set and bash it into small pieces.

now put in plain vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce 😍😍😍😎😎😎

Careers Expo

Careers Expo

On friday me and a group of kids went to the Careers Expo.

First we went over to the vans to go to the horncastle arena. When we got there we “lined up” outside and talked over the rules.

Then we all walked into the arena and got a bag to put all the FREE STUFF we got (no kidding there was a lot) me and my friends (Bluebell and Mak) walked off to see all the different jobs.

We all saw apeling stand the people that ran the stand were very welcoming and kind one of the ladies asked us “what we wanted to do?” I said “I am not very sure but i am interested in make up” she said “that's awesome” she handed us a pamphlet and we went on our way.

Then we saw a HUGE truck we ran over as fast as we can the man working there said “do you want to go inside?” we all said “YES!!” it could fit 4 of us in there. He told us about it, he said “you can fit two beds in it one on the bottom and one on the top” it was super cool.

We got lots of pamphlets about jobs that we are interested in and lots of FREE things. Overall it was an amazing Experience .

my story

 this is my story called the love note. this is the first chapter if i showed it all it would be to long so here it is .     

CHAPTER 1

“RUN!!”

1 september Holland Berlikum 1939 - I wake up rubbing my eyes as the bright light from the sun hits my face. It is surprisingly quiet downstairs; my mum and little brother and little sister are usually running around trying to get ready for school. I yell out “Mamma!” “Sake!” “Anna!”, no reply i start to worry but tell myself NO!! They are just playing hide and seek. I sneak quietly down stairs “Hallo iemand daar?”

My mum only speaks Dutch, but in school me and my siblings can speak Dutch and English. I do go to school but not everyday, i skip friday because i have to take care of my grandmother, she lives alone because Grootvader died in world war one. So i look in the kitchen; no one. I look in the cupboard and my little sister is crying i yell “Anna! waar was je?” she said “Elizabeth!” i ask “where are Mamma and Sake? “I do not know? Mamma said she was going to buy some more flour from the market to make bread for ontbijt” “and Sake wanted to come and they still have not came back”. Now i start to freak out i tell her “alles komt goed” i come with her upstairs we both get dressed then all of a sudden there was a knock on the door i go check i see a man in camouflage i say “hello?” “who are you?” then i realise he is a german. I hope it is not the start of world war 2 in world war 1 i was really little i think i was 3 months old. He gives me a piece of paper it says a curfew which is 7:00pm and also some ground rules i shut the door and make sure he has left. I sprint up the stairs then run back down and lock the door back up i go i yell “Anna!” “We moeten gaan!” she asks “why” i really don't want to tell her it is maybe ww2 so i say “to find mamma and Sake” she says “why was there a man in camouflage? “Um…” i don’t know what to tell her “he was the ...mailman i don't know why he was in camouflage” i say “zou je alsjeblieft een tas willen hebben” i ask her she grabs a big bag but small enough that she can wear it on her back. She puts her favorite doll,some clothes and her pillow i pack the same but instead of a doll i pack food and water. She asks again “why do we have to leave” i have to tell her “well we are going to find mamma and Sake also it is because well... world war twee i think is starting”. I am praying she does not start freaking out she asks me “ARE MAMMA AND SAKE DEAD!!!AND OUR WE GOING TO DIE!!” “GEEN KALME NEER !!” I say “we will be OK” she hugs me has her bright blue eyes meet my eyes then I say “come on let's go”. I walk outside with Anna behind me I scream in aganie as i see my mamma lying on the ground with a bullet hole threw her chest i dropped to my knees Anna asks “who is that?” then she realised that it was mamma she started crying as much as i was i pull Anna closer to me. Then i hear a scream saying “RUN!!”

How To Make A Scrunchy

How to make a bow scrunchy :

Things you will need :

-small amount of non-stretch fabric (I used a non-stretch velvet)

-fabric scissors

-sewing machine

-straight pins

-1/4″ elastic

-safety pin



Step 1: First, you’ll want to cut out a rectangle of velvet that is 3.5″ x 18″ for your scrunchie and another long strip that is 2.5″ x 25″ for your bow.Fold over the top 1/4″ inch of your rectangle and sew flat to create a finished edge.


Step 2 :Fold your scrunchie rectangle in half lengthwise, right sides together, and pin the open side closed with pins. Sew down the open side with a 1/4″ seam allowance so that you create a tube.




Step 3:Turn the tube right side out by pinning a safety pin to one end and feeding the pin through the tube until it comes out the other end and your tube is right side out.


Step 4:Cut a piece of elastic 8″ long. Use a safety pin at one end of the elastic to thread it through the tube and come out the other side (just feel around to make sure the elastic didn’t twist in the tube during the process).



Step 5:Sew the ends of your elastic together. Tuck your unfinished scrunchie edge into your finished edge and pin them flat together.


Step 6:Sew down the finished edge line to secure both layers together with the elastic band between them. Don’t worry about that flat spot, as your bow will cover it!

Step 7:to make the it fold your long strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, and pin in place. Sew along the top with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Open the top right side out again and attach a safety pin in the top inside corner before turning it back to having both right sides touching again and the pin sandwiched between the layers. Sew down the side of your long strip but leave an opening of 2-3″ towards the bottom and then continue all the way down the side and along the bottom edge. Find your safety pin that you pinned (the finished product )




in the top corner with your fingers and use that to pull the top corner towards the opening in the bottom corner, eventually turning the whole strip right side out. Remove the safety pin.


8:Top sew all the way around the edge of the strip with a 1/8″ seam allowance to close up your gap and give the bow a finished, and flattened.Tie your bow onto the flat spot on your scrunchie and that’s it! Your bow scrunchie is now ready to wear!

WINTER SPORT

So last week on Friday we went to our first winter sport game of the year. Well for me it was not really a game because it was CIRCUS !!!! Circus is soooo fun. At our lesson we first of all did the basics like cart wheels,forwards rolls,balancing on planks and walking tight ropes. We did it in the circus school in new Brighton. Next week we are going to do partner work and something new.

my 6 weeks

Six Weeks of Term 1


Well on the first day of school I was so nervous. I thought it was going to be like training a wild horse IMPOSSIBLE! But on the 2nd day I was feeling a bit better. The huge group of butterflies rushing around like a gun was just shot that had died down .

Now it is week six I’m feeling like my new friends appreciate me more than my old friends. My old friends are like hungry sharks always circling me and talking about nothing important.

The work is not too hard but I like a small challenge and sometimes I almost doze off in the middle of math but it's OK. Now that my old friends are not in my class I can focus more on work and that makes it a lot easier. But over all the first six weeks of school have been great and I'm excited for more to come.
